So what exactly is Tubby Jacks all about? What makes this good looking cooker stand out from the crowd?
Tubby Jacks outdoor cookers use the ancient kamado cooking system, which originated in Japan over 6,000 years ago. In very basic terms, it’s an outdoor cooker fuelled by wood or charcoal held within a specially designed ceramic container, allowing it to reach very high temperatures.
Want to know a bit about the history? ‘Kamado’ is the Japanese word for ‘stove’ or ‘cooking range’, and the first of these would have been made of clay; a kind of ‘pot within a pot’. The concept developed over the centuries to fulfil the requirements of nomadic people with a specific diet – steaming rice, and grilling meat or fish was essential, so air and temperature controls were added as the design became more sophisticated. Wind forward several millenia and the ‘ceramic egg’ type of outdoor cooker evolved, making a breakthrough in outdoor cooking styles.
Today Tubby Jacks still uses the ceramic firebox at the heart of the design; and it’s been brought right up to date with top quality stainless steel fittings robust enough to withstand the rigours of outdoor life.
It’s easy to light and easy to use, and with cooking temperatures reached in ten minutes and no need to refuel for 10 hours, making your outdoor lifestyle a whole lot easier, giving you more time to relax and have fun with your friends and family. You can cook anything on it – steam rice, pan fry fish, slow cook a shoulder of pork, even bake a loaf of bread or use it as a meat smoker. And we’ve introduced some top notch accessories to make cooking on a Tubby Jacks even more convenient – there's a pizza stone (a pizza will cook in just 3 minutes on a Tubby Jacks), a chicken sitter (yep, it'll roast whole chickens), and a chilli rack for perfect stuffed chillis every time.
Available in two sizes and four up to the minute colours, with its classic egg shape design and quirky dimpled and glazed ceramic finish, a Tubby Jacks not only works great – it looks great too.
